World Series Game 7 Captures Over 50 Million Audience Members Across the United States, Canada and Japan Regions.

The nail-biting extra-inning contest that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 averaged a combined 51M spectators in the United States, Canadian, and Japanese markets. MLB stated this represents the most-watched Fall Classic Game 7 after the 1991 showdown between the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Details

Last Saturday’s epic game drew 27.33M audience members on Fox networks, its Spanish-language channel and their streaming platforms. According to Nielsen, it was the second most-watched program of the previous week.

It additionally stands as the top-rated World Series matchup after the 2017 edition Game 7 involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged over 29 million. This marks a 16% improvement compared to the previous Game 7 featuring the Washington Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19 million viewers.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 placed fourth, Game 4 ranked 7th, the fifth game came in eighth, and Game 3 landed in 13th place.

Global Viewership Numbers

In the Canadian market, the game drew over 11 million viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This was the most-watched English program in Canada since the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final contest began at 9 PM in the local time zone, it averaged 12 million viewers. This followed last Friday’s Game 6 – in which World Series Most Valuable Player Yamamoto allowed one run in six frames – drew 13.1 million spectators, making it the highest-rated World Series game on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Overall Totals and Trends

The full seven-game series drew over 15.7 million audience members on Fox, a 2% rise from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This represents the initial instance after 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has seen audience growth for two straight seasons.

Including the Game 1 broadcast on Univision, the total US average reached 16.1M. The total World Series average in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 drew 8.09M viewers, an 8% increase compared to last year and Fox’s strongest playoff performance after 2017.

Major League Baseball stated that the World Series was broadcast in 203 nations and regions by forty-four broadcasting partners in 16 different languages.
